Some of the finest scrambling is to be found on buttresses and ridges, since they draw the eye and excite with their exposure. There are not many classic ridge scrambles in the Lake District, the rock either being too broken or else too steep. However, some of the easiest rock climbs can be tackled as a scramble with appropriate exprience.

South East Buttress, Harrison Stickle, Langdale - one of several excellent scrambles on first-rate rock
Stegosaurus, High Stile, Buttermere - a characterful arete followed by less defined scrambling
The Banister, Scafell, Wasdale - a short but worthwhile arete above Lord's Rake
Thor's Buttress & Pen, Eskdale - a quality scramble in upper Eskdale
